Sarah
Flooks Missing
Person Report
12/01/07 - THE family of Sarah Flooks have been
told a woman's body found in Wanstead Park last night is that of the
teacher who went missing in March.
Brother Tim Flooks, who is abroad, told the Recorder he had been
telephoned by his mother last night with the news.
Speaking to the Recorder, Mr Flooks, who lives in Somerset, said his
family was devastated and finding it hard to take it all in.
He said his mother had been told it was definitely the body of Sarah,
missing since March last year.
POLICE hunting for missing teacher Sarah Flooks have found a body in Wanstead Park, just half a mile from her home.
The grim discovery was made at around 5.30pm yesterday (Thursday) in thick undergrowth 50ft away from a main path in a section of the park called Ornamental Waters. The area has been cordoned off.
Detectives at the scene are refusing to comment on the link with Sarah, 50, who vanished from her home in Wanstead Park Avenue, Wanstead in March last year.
One man, out for a jog in the park this morning, said: "It's upsetting if a body has been found. There are police all down Wanstead Park Avenue too. I've never seen anything like it."
Another dog walker in the park said: "It's very unusual to see police here, I thought it was a police exercise. It's weird how no one could have seen something like a body until now, although it is a woody area. It'd be a shame if it was Sarah
Flooks."
Details - Sarah
Flooks, 50, has not been seen since she left her home in
Wanstead, east London, to travel to work at nearby Monega
Primary School in Forest Gate on March 2, 2006
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The disappearance of a primary school teacher who failed to turn up for work is totally out of character, her partner said today.
Sarah Flooks, 50, went missing after she left home that she shared with her partner of 30 years but failed to turn up to work.
Partner John Mouzouros said a government school inspection had been playing on her mind in the days leading up to her disappearance and had been due to take place on the day that she disappeared.
But he said they had not had a row and everything was normal in the run up until she went missing.
Ms Flooks, left her home in Wanstead Park Road, Wanstead, east London, at 7am to go to Monega Primary School in Monega Road, Forest Gate, East London, on Thursday, March 2.
Despite being only five minutes drive away, Ms Flooks failed to take her car and marking of her young pupils schoolwork was still in the boot.
Her blue Ford Ka was found parked in a side street at around 3pm the day she went missing, and detectives it had not been moved since she arrived home from work the previous night.
Ms Flooks was originally from Taunton, Somerset, and has family in the west country, but she has failed to contact them.
Partner Mr Mouzouros, 54, said: "We still have no idea where she is. This is the first time something like this has happened. We have been together for 30 years and it's so out of character for her.
He denied the couple had a row but said: "I don't really know what the cause is. There was an Ofsted inspection on the day she went missing, maybe the pressure was building up and that had been playing on her mind.
"She had been working late the two previous nights and on both nights she left me notes saying that she would be late and let me know when she would get home."
Mr Mouzouros said she rarely carried more than £30 on her and her credit cards had not been used since she went missing.
He said his partner, who was very active in outdoor pursuits, would sometimes walk to school across parkland, but if she had marking to return to her pupuils, would drive.
Mr Mouzouros added: "I am absolutely devastated. I am just holding it together. I would like her primarily to contact her mother, she has been worried.
"It is not the knowing that is worse. We would really like to know that she is alive and well."
Ms Flooks is white, and wore a three quarter length black coat and jeans when she left her home. She has distinctive red hair and glasses.
